Welcome to Stoke Hammond

Recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086, Stoke Hammond a small village. The name which refers to an Anglo-Saxon word ‘stoche’, a place of worship. Hammond was added in the 12th century, referring back to the main landowners in the area at the time of the Domesday.  

Stoke Hammond was one of only 51 ‘Thankful Villages’ so called because no men were lost during the First World War. During the Second World War, RAF Stoke Hammond was a secret wireless station supporting Bletchley Park. This continued throughout the Cold War up until 1973. 

Today, Stoke Hammond has some wonderful small businesses that provide the community with all sorts of necessities and fun things. The Post Office, Food & Wine the newsagents, the Community Centre, The Dolphin Pub and Stoke Hammond Sports Club that provide community facilities.  

There is also Printing & Mailing the print management company, MD Autocare, MD Campers campervan hire, MK Electrical, and Premier Access Scaffolding. 

For those who enjoy the countryside and its wares, there is Buckinghamshire Honey Company and Paper Mill Alpacas, a great place to learn more about these lovely animals. 

There is the Church of England place of worship, St Luke’s, on Old School Road as well as a Methodist chapel, dating back to 1927. 

The Grand Union Canal is no far away and the village gives its name to one of the locks.
