Welcome to Stewkley

Stewkley has the one of the longest village high streets in Britain, at 2 miles long. The name could be from the Anglo Saxon, meaning ‘clearing with stumps’. The Stewkley History Society website is a fascinating and detailed source of information.

The Grapevine magazine is a monthly newsletter, distributed to all parishioners and available online, with up-to-date, local events and news. The upcoming programme for the Stewkley Walkers group is contained therein, as is the Stewkley Local History Group talks, and the village book club.

The Swan at Stewkley is a fabulous pub that serves locally sourced, fresh ingredients. Ideal for meals, popping in for a drink, or hosting private parties, such as christenings. The Carpenters Arms, known as the Carps, is Stewkley’s other wonderful pub that holds community events, like the Owlswick Morris Dancers, discos, and quiz nights.
There are other groups within the community too, like Stewkley WI, Friends of Tiger Island, the bellringers, the Stewkley Singers, Scouts, Brownies, as well as the Methodist chapel and C of E church, St Michael’s.

For children aged 2-5, there is Stewkley Cygnets Pre-school. St Michael’s School is for children from 4 – 11 years old.
