Welcome to Heath and Reach

This unusual name stems from two hamlets joining over the years. Heath comes from the sandy heathland topography of the area. Reach potentially refers to a narrow path. There was a Roman settlement in the area and building traces, coins, and pottery have all been found near Overend Green Farm.

Heath Village Barn, known as The Barn, is where many community groups and clubs convene. There are music groups like Guitar Ninja, group lessons for children and adults, and the Leighton Buzzard Philharmonic Marching Band. There are several exercise classes, including pregnancy yoga. The Leighton Buzzard Children’s Theatre and Heath Barn Birds, our local WI group, meet here too. Every year, the WI organise a Pancake Race to raise money for charity.

Heath and Reach also has a church, golf club, St Leonard’s lower school, a restaurant, a village store, and two pubs. The fishing club is at nearby Jones Lakes. The sports association maintains the playing fields, tennis courts, pavilion, and a recreation ground.

The quarry, now disused, has been the set for films such as The Da Vinci Code and The Mummy Returns.
